The control room offers a detailed response both for mixing and recording. The space is designed with the engineer / producer positions in mind but this in no way effects the listening experience at the back of the room. Diffusion and absorption ratios have been taken into account to include the stone walls and equipment and we feel that the control room is a comfortable place to spend a full day or night or both in.
All equipment is patchable via the bantam patch-bay and there is ample cabling for clients to bring in their own equipment and instruments.
There is plenty of room for recording in the control room as well to use the monitors.
This is the hammond room which we would use for Vocals or for a single player (acoustic guitar).
As it is quite a dead sounding room it is also used for voice overs.
The hammond and leslie are contained here but the leslie can be moved to any of the other recording rooms.
This room is a very live room for a room of its size. It has an amazing reverb for a medium sized room.
We have recorded Drums where room character is wanted and with close mic's and room mic's you can get the best of both worlds, control with a monster room sound.
String quartets have remarked that it is a beautiful room to play in and solo instruments can also benefit from this room.
With the addition of some acoustic panels this room can be tailored to meet clients needs.
The piano room has a slightly more live acoustic.
This room contains the piano, fender rhodes and Harmonium.
It has been used for live strings and for drums and most acoustic instruments. It is big enough for four to five musicians and has a line of sight to live room 3. We have had eight string players in here.
This room is a very neutral "studio" type room and is probably the most used room at the Cauldron as it has the least amount of room character.
It is used for vocals, drums, strings and all acoustic instruments.
BIg enough for five or six musicians we have recorded string sections with twelve players including Celli and Basses.
This room has also doubled up as a second control room where larger projects needed two mix rooms.
This room is more of a link room to the plate and the bathroom but because of line of sight between this and live rooms 3 and 4. It is used quite often for recording.
All our rooms have stone walls and wooden flooring and have a varying degree of reverberation times and colour. This allows for the more experimental to use the studio as another instrument and with flexible acoustic paneling the imagination is the only limiting factor.
